Off-Label Ltd

Established in 2002, Off-Label Ltd is a UK-based company dedicated to maintaining a constantly-updated database on the off-label use of drugs. The company's core product is an online searchable resource that provides rapid access to information detailing the latest off-label uses of over 400 licensed drugs.

Off-Label Ltd provides healthcare professionals, manufacturers, researchers, academics, and patient support groups with a powerful prescribing and pharmaceutical information resource. This new technology has its origins within early work of the McCormack Drug Research Group. Historically during the 1980's McCormack Group used a meta-analytical approach in an endeavour to identify and catalogue novel uses of all nonsteroidal drugs developed since the launch of aspirin. This project was formidable and could not easily be solved using traditional medical and scientific databases.

Ultimately, the classification of analgesic use into two categories, approved (licensed) and non-approved (off-label) was achieved by McCormack as a result of considerable investment in the development of a "Search and Select" technology. At that time, this emerging technology had the power to isolate information relating to the clinical use of an analgesic drug when such use failed to fulfill criteria for the approved use detailed in the product license.

Since the inception of Off-Label Ltd in 2002 McCormack has continued to invest in the above technology. It now has the capability to isolate information relating to licensed and off-label uses for over 400 different drugs (not just analgesics) from the 95,000 plus reports indexed onto Medline each month.

Today, McCormack’s pioneering technology facilitates the final identification of published reports relating to off-label use. The Off-Label Database is updated daily with this new information. Users can access this powerful resource via Off-Label.com, our off-label information portal, that grows at a rate of 75-100 newly-published off-label reports each week.

The UK version of OFF-LABEL Database was made available online in September 2004 and the US version was launched in October 2004.

The founding director of Off-Label Ltd is Keith McCormack. Keith is a Neurophysiologist whose research interests include the treatment of neuropathic pain and the application of chaos theory to sensory processing within injured neuronal networks. In 1984 he was co-founder of the McCormack Drug Research Group. This group is well known for its work with the nonsteroidal class of analgesics. Many of their findings, in particular those describing the effects of these compounds upon spinal nociceptive processing, are now incorporated within the core educational curriculum of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). Keith has published numerous reports that relate to pain, its management, and processing within injured nerves, and has lectured extensively worldwide on these topics for over two decades.
